What is better than rescuing a dog? Rescuing TWO! An update on COOKIE & TUCKER!

Thank you Tara for keeping in touch and, we agree, the more dogs the better!

Dear Much Love,

February 9th is a big day in the lives of Cookie & Tucker.  Two years ago today they came to live here with me.

And it is also is their 10th birthday!

When I called Much Love, a little over 2 years ago, to offer myself as a foster parent,  I was very clear that I would only be able to foster 1 dog and  I was adamant that,  as much as I wanted to have a dog, I WOULD NOT be keeping it.
After my home check, I went on line to see the dogs who needed fostering and came across a picture of Tucker and fell in love.  His bio said “I really need to stay with my sister Cookie.”  I scrolled over to look at her.  Cookie is very camera shy and she looked pretty mean in her picture so I thought…well, I don’t want her, I just want him.  But my very wise friend who has never had less than 2 dogs, said, “Don’t be an a**hole, just foster them both.”
And so I did.  And 5 minutes after I brought them home we were sitting in my backyard as though we had been doing that every afternoon for years.  I called Much Love about an hour later to say I would be keeping Cookie and Tucker.   And that was, hands down, the best decision I have ever made.
2 years later Tucker fancies himself the Mayor of Venice.  He says hello to everyone and stops in all the shops on Abbot Kinney to see if they have any treats for him, and they usually do.  Cookie, the sweetest, funniest girl I have ever known,  is a bit more reserved, but those who know her well agree, she is the most charming lady around.
Many thanks to Much Love and especially to Samantha Lewis, Cookie and Tucker’s guardian angel, for being able to see past the sad eyes of these temporarily defeated older dogs and for recognizing them for the angels they are and for making sure they landed where they belong…with me.
We are so glad that we can celebrate their 10th year!

ML Dog ZIGGY - getting triple the love!

Update from Ziggy’s mom Alexandria!

I am attaching some pictures of our beautiful dog Ziggy with his brother and sisters (the Triplets).  Ziggy is the most loving, sweet, and gentle dog.  When we got Ziggy in October 09, he showed signs of separation anxiety and possible abuse in the fact that he never made any sound.  We thought maybe he was punished when he barked because it was very unusual for a dog not make any sounds.  Our family gave Ziggy lots of love and hugs and many long walks.  On Christmas eve, Ziggy heard a sound outside the front door.  I was in the kitchen and I suddenly heard a dog bark.  I asked my kids if the door was open and they said “no, it was Ziggy.”  My daughter Leila burst into tears of happiness.  She was so happy to hear Ziggy bark because she felt that he knew he was loved and wanted to protect the family.  Ziggy only barks once in a while but we know he is happier than he has ever been.  Thanks to Much Love for bringing this wonderful new addition into our lives.

One year ago today…update on FRITO!!

January 20th, 2010 | 3 comments |

fritoJanuary 19th is the one-year anniversary of Kevin and I adopting the love of our lives—Frito! He is the most wonderful three-legged wondermutt ever. At first, we felt bad for Frito because he’s missing a leg, but he doesn’t miss a beat: he runs faster than we do (much to our chagrin) and he still needs 2 hours of exercise everyday to keep him happy. Frito never fails to put a smile on our faces, he keeps us laughing with his silliness, and he’s the best snuggler in the whole world. Thank you so much for believing in his potential and rescuing him from the shelter, and especially for allowing us to love and care for him. We’re planning to get Frito certified as a therapy dog in the coming months so he can visit other amputees and share his smile with those who need it.

People often say that Frito is a lucky dog because we adopted him. Kevin and I know that we’re the lucky ones. We couldn’t imagine life without our Frito Burrito, so thank you!

Much Love,
Cassandra, Kevin, and Frito Burritofritocowboy
