I took Templeton in as a foster when he was only a few weeks old. He was a little fur ball at the time who could fit in my hands, and he had been through a lot; he’d been stuck in a drain pipe of a house for four days, meowing until the owners found him and took him to a shelter. He had worms, was starving and would almost certainly have not survived as a black cat in the month of October, which is why it was lucky that Much Love volunteer Ruthanne Secunda was there to take him. I had two cats at the time, Daisy and Pip, who hated but mostly avoided each other, so I was slightly worried that Templeton wouldn’t get along with them either. However, he has the most amazing personality and immediately won them both over. After a few weeks of taking him to the adoption event, my boyfriend and I realized we couldn’t split up Templeton from Pip, especially, and we decided to adopt. He is the sweetest, most affectionate cat we’ve ever been in contact with, and purrs constantly. He’s also completely changed the dynamic of the cats in our house, and is already the alpha. We couldn’t love him any more and are so grateful to Much Love and the work they do for animals in need.
Much Love Animal Rescue’s goal for 2012 is to rescue
at least 200 homeless dogs and cats from LA area shelters
The past few years have been tough on all of us. During a time when people were saving every penny for their own family, non-profit groups like ours – who run entirely on donations and fundraising – felt the hit as well.
Much Love Animal Rescue is ready to move forward in 2012 and save more lives in each year to come. We are excited to kick off 200 in 2012 and hope you will help us reach our goal. In January we have already rescued 24 animals! We are off to a good start.
Much Love Animal Rescue will always rescue the senior animals, the terrier with one eye, the kitten with 3 legs, the pit puppies with mange, the poodle with pneumonia – but also those highly adoptable animals we place in a few days, but who get over-looked in the shelters simply because there are too many there.
Our plan is always to decrease the numbers of animals in the shelters, in hope to create space so less are euthanized each year. 200 might not sound like a lot to some of you, but it literally means life for those dogs and cats we rescue, and also for the ones who get to live a little longer in the shelter, and hopefully be adopted, because of the space we have made.
How are we going to go about this goal? Below is a list of ways we are growing our organization – and we need your help! ADOPT! The more furry friends we put into loving homes, the more we can go back and get. Donations to Much Love Animal Rescue go entirely towards the care of our animals. More donations = more lives saved. Also, the more foster homes we have (especially if you do not have other pets) the more animals we can rescue. By not boarding our animals, we save hundreds of dollars a month and the money saved can go towards rescuing more homeless dogs and cats.
Please help us reach 200 in 2012!
We have an experienced grant writer on board who will be applying for a minimum of 12 grants
We kicked off the year with a fabulous fundraiser – Dr. Nguyen’s Makeovers For Mutts – which raised over $34,000 for our animals
Our newly formed Foster & Volunteer Committees are working hard to grow those areas of the organization by creating more outreach and better communication
Our Much Love Manager (our one employee) has been with our organization for over 3 years and she does an incredible job of making sure our dogs and cats are where they need to be, and for the lowest costs
We are planning many fun, small events and promotions to raise awareness of animal rescue and Much Love
Watch for a new campaign this year to raise money for an actual facility! After 13 years, we think we are ready
Thought you might like to see an update on Cowboy. He is so sweet and lovable, and very demanding for attention. He gets lots of compliments everywhere we take him. And we take him lots of places, since he thinks that whenever he hears car keys he is going for a ride. And when Nicole’s ring tone goes off on my phone in the afternoon, he gets super excited. He could probably drive to school himself by now. Lord knows he likes to sit in the driver’s seat.
On only one picture does he have his bandana on, but he wears one every day. He has 6 or 7 of them.
