A Plea for new Much Love dog – VERNON

On Friday we were forwarded this email from one of our wonderful fosters:

This little fellow has been hanging around the warehouse here in Vernon for the past few days. We have been feeding him lunch which he enjoys immensely, as it appears he doesn’t eat very much.
He is a male puppy, undernourished, with a bad skin condition-open sores on his face, no fur left on the lower half of his body.
He has a good temperament and would make a good pet-he will let a person pet him and likes to be in our company.  He doesn’t bark or display any signs of aggression.  He is a little skittish, but that’s to be expected.
He’s in bad shape and I fear he will succumb to disease or get hit by a vehicle-our warehouse sits just off Alameda street, one of the busiest industrial routes from LA to the docks in Long beach.
Anybody looking to help a sweet dog who needs a lot of TLC?

TLC?  Ah, yeah – we’ve got that!  Within minutes, our manager and foster coordinator were in the Much Love van cruising downtown to rescue this sweet boy.  He is absolutely incredible – kind, gentle, submissive, and thankfully now on the mend.  The nice staff at VCA Petville have put in hours and hours over the weekend to stabilize him – working on his demodex mange (not contagious), open sores, swollen paws, dehydration, and malnutrition.

We visit him every day and we are treated to many sloppy kisses and tail wags!  He is on many medications and has enjoyed a soothing oatmeal bath to help remove the hundreds of ticks from all over his body.  He happily takes treats and loves to rest his head on his stuffed toys.  He will see a dermatologist later in the week to make sure he is getting everything he needs.  He deserves it!

Our plea is for a foster (and forever) home for Vernon – for now without other animals due to his weak immune system.  He has weeks of recovery and he needs a warm bed and soft grass to lay on.  Even if you can only foster for a few weeks – that is fine! The pictures make him look big, but he is only a puppy and about 33 pounds. Please forward this email on to anyone you know who might be able to help.

Thank you!

UPDATE  3/31- Vernon is doing great!  His skin is improving every day and he has gained 6 pounds.  He is SO happy and such a joy to be around!  He left the vet office today (thank you VCA Petville for the excellent care you give him!) and he is in his new foster.  Thank you Vicki for giving him that warm bed and lots of love!
